The government has confirmed that participation in SOCSO Lindung 24 Jam is voluntary, but workers who wish to opt out must complete and submit an exemption form. The minister, Fahmi, stated the scheme is now optional following earlier mandatory enrolment plans. Employers will need to manage this process for affected staff, as contributions differ depending on whether a worker is enrolled or has filed an exemption. No new contribution rate has been announced. The procedural requirement for a written opt-out form means employers cannot simply stop deductions without a documented exemption from the employee.

Active debate is underway over Malaysia's next minimum wage revision. MTUC has formally proposed RM3,100 as the new minimum wage. Business groups (SME Malaysia, MRCA) are seeking a deferment, warning that a hike to RM2,000 would pressure 92.8% of businesses and trigger cascading cost increases including higher operating costs and property prices. No new rate has been gazetted yet — this remains a proposal/consultation phase.
